ClearStyle Clarity
Take a critical look at the workbook or manual; does it
match up to your standards? There are often three related
problems that interact to make your handouts, manuals, and
workbooks look like the typographic and learning equivalent
of spaghetti.
The first is the layout - the core design of the page, how
colour is used, what the typeface is and how it matches
your brand value. Try this test: you're familiar typeface
of Comic Sans. It's friendly, child-like, and playful. Now
imagine reading some bureaucratic gobbledegook in Comic
Sans. Yuk. The light and friendly typeface and the heavy
bureaucratic words are in direct conflict. You might not
notice, but at least one-third of your audience will be
distracted by it.
Which leads us to the visuals. For visually oriented
people, the visual is the message, the words support the
message, not the other way around. It is often said that
decorative graphics break up the page, that may be so for
some. But for others, the decorations break up the message,
and with it the whole point of your report or workbook.
Which leaves the words. Ah yes, everyone can write good
English. You probably do, in which case there's no need for
our editorial help. However, if you need help, our experts
will be delighted to ghost write on your behalf.
ClearStyle clarity applies these communication principles
to board reports, tender documents, project reports,
technical works, student workbooks, manuals and handouts.
There are special approaches to writing web pages, and we can
train you to write those.
